MALAYSIAN WINS SILVER FOR TRIATHLON AT THE 2015 SEA GAMES

Triathlete Rikigoro Shinozuka won the silver medal for Malaysia at the 2015 SEA Games, Singapore after clocking 2’05:35 in the triathlon. The race involves 1.5km swim, 40km cycling and 10km run and he came in barely a minute behind Nikko Bryan Huelgas of the Philippines.

Of Japanese and Chinese parentage, Riki, 20 was surprised with his win as he opined he was way off pace in his swim and was placed 8th. However, sheer determination saw him finish second to win the silver medal at East Coast Park ahead of Singapore’s Loo Chuan Rong.

Riki prepared well for this race which included a two-month stint in Australia and though it was raining heavily during the race, he felt he was geared for the challenge. He has been competing in the triathlon since 2009.
